Dealing with stress and not eating a sundae!

There’s a quote I read the other day and I loved it….it said..

Don’t reward yourself with a treat, you are not a dog /

Do you find yourself doing this? I realize I was actually doing it even with my kids. For example if they did good on their homework, if you have a good day, a bad day, an emotional day….a blah blah blah blah day….. so you get my point?? so what would i say, “ok let’s go have ice cream” Hurray!!! Lol …I remember back in the day it seemed like there was absolutely nothing that a peanut buster parfait wouldn’t fix lol!! Well the great thing about that is that I’m vegan and don’t even like to think about eating ice cream but I have to work on not eating the fries too. Another great thing I learned today was my very first thought after dealing with the stress….”man I need to hit the treadmill” sigh…I do believe there is hope for me after all!! ๐Ÿ™‚

There is hope for all of us if we quit rewarding behaviors with food. I just want to share a few little items I bought myself for my “treat” ๐Ÿ™‚ it’s 2 scented candles, a key chain, and a hand sanitizer holder & bottle…how cute!! And I spent maybe one or two dollars over the price of I’ve cream.

So next time you need a “treat” buy yourself a scented candle, or a cute key chain…anything besides food because guess what…you will have them a lot longer than a treat… and what a nice reminder to have and look at and say “oh yeah, i can do this”.

I hope I helped one person who reads this to know we are not animals and should not treat our bodies as such..

J

I agree; we’re physical beings, so it’s our duty to get up and move that body around:)

This is SO profound and described me verbatim!! I have two butterfingers (the best candy on the whole planet b.t.w.) frozen in my freezer waiting “patiently” for me upon reaching my target weight. Once doing so, my plan was to annihilate them. I even told them as much. “I’m going to destroy you!”, I’d say. I would stare at them a few more seconds, deciding which one I was going to obliterate first, before closing the freezer. I don’t know where this thought process came from; however, if it is shared by others going through similar struggles, then it must be attached to the addiction. Reading this blog has diagnosed a problem I was unaware existed. I never associated this with the struggles I have with food. I thought it was harmless. I thought it was HELPING me! Now that I’m aware of the error of this thinking I must abstain from it; thus saying goodbye to my two butterfingers. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฆ While I won’t reward myself with a scented candle, or “cute” key chain (girls smh), I might consider buying myself a new cologne or a stylish watch I’ve been stalking. Whatever I decide, nothing will trump the reward of knowing that I’m a better version of me health wise and that the example I’m setting for my family is priceless.

I saw this same quote several months ago and use it frequently!! It does make you much more aware of emotional eating for sure.

Haha. I used to do that to myself too. Reward myself with chocolate, crisps, pizza etc after a long day at work of if I’ve had a bad day.

Nice post! I might actually just buy myself some scented candles. ๐Ÿ™‚

My downfall is Mountain Dew – not the diet kind either. I can rationalize it anyday. Re-reading my blog has made me see my behavior…and I don’t like it!

Aww not true. You are a beautiful woman who is learning how to give herself new and fun treats!! J

I think that my family uses the food reward system. We reward getting paid with going out for dinner. We reward and sympathies through food. I think you may have just woken me up to this fact, rather rudely!!! I’m going to reward myself with a new bra – funny it may seem but my weightloss warrants it!!! Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

A bra is a great treat!!!! Especially when your losing weight, our girls need that support ๐Ÿ™‚

Right, chocolate, and as well as food – alcohol. Using a beer as a mental comfort-pillow is no way forward.

Better to use fitness as it’s own reward and enjoy improved sporting ability!

Absolutely!!! We don’t even realize how we sabotage ourselves by these “treats” that make it 10 times worse!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I love your quote “don’t reward yourself with a treat we are not a dog” that’s a good one. Really good alternative idea for treats you suggest like buying a scented candle. Other ideas to share for treats are going for a walk in the park or at the beach (free); going to the farmers market and looking at the amazing food options available and perhaps trying something new like Vegan Grilled Cheese (not free); getting the family on bicycles and taking a tour of your town (free) … thanks for sharing your we are not a dog expecting treats .. love it …

  10. […] for ur hard work and effort. Preferably use a non food related reward though. I learned that from a diva’s journey blog and it is very true and much for fun! If u eat food it’s gone as soon as u chew. A hairstyle […]
